Harmattan Associates was established in London, UK, in 2006. We have always focused on the intersection of strategy and socio-political risk in complex
environments, and have preferred to remain a small, unique specialist advisory, with careful growth to maintain quality and the intimacy of our client
relationships.
Harmattan’s Director is Robert McKellar. His interest in political risk stems from his childhood in Iran, when after two years in Teheran his family had to
quickly evacuate because of the revolution. Robert holds an MA in Political Science with a focus on conflict, terrorism and international affairs, and a
Master of International Business with emphasis on emerging market growth strategies. He worked as an international strategy consultant for five years
before joining Control Risks in 2004, where for two years he led and contributed to private sector risk projects, and security sector reform initiatives in
post-conflict environments.
Robert studied Arabic in Tunis for a year, and has conducted project work on-site in developing regions, mainly in MENA but also the Caucasus,
Afghanistan and SE Asia.
